The month of April brings two outstanding new Partner Gardens into our scheme. Both are in Connaught where we are especially delighted to be expanding our portfolio. Caher Bridge Garden in the Burren Co Clare started around a small cottage 25 years ago and has gradually inched its way out into the surrounding wild countryside to be the outstanding garden it is today. Meanwhile Drimbawn Garden in Tourmakeady, Co Mayo was set out in a more formal style for a bishop in the mid-19th century, then fell into decline but has been beautifully restored by its present owners over the past 20 years.
Local difficult westerly conditions affect both gardens – the battle in Caher Bridge is with barely inches of very poor soil over Burren limestone, along with extremely wet and windy weather for much of the year. Drimbawn meanwhile is even more exposed to the wild Atlantic wind and rain. Both gardens have grown, enriched their soils, and adapted to provide protective havens for a fantastic range of plants and trees.
Carl Wright is the creator and owner of Caher Bridge Garden, and Frank Steffens is the Head Gardener at Drimbawn. Both will provide the warmest westerly welcome for those of you prepared to go the extra mile to visit their superb gardens!
Please check the Partner Gardens section of the RHSI website for full information on both gardens.
