Our garden has evolved over the last 26 years into a place of refuge both for ourselves and the wildlife who have made here their home. When we moved to the Old Deanery, we had a framework of old trees around the perimeter, but essentially the garden had been neglected for many many years. Our most exciting discovery was probably to find we had a walled garden, but this too was totally overgrown. Today it is a fully planted kitchen garden with vegetable beds, soft fruit, herbs and herbaceous borders. We have a good collection of dahlias, salvias, paeonies and roses. In the rest of the garden we have planted about 1500 trees, some as specimens, some in the context of a woodland, but quite a few are rare and unusual. We have a special love of magnolia and have accumulated over 30 different species. A large pond plays host to ducks, moorhens, frogs and newts and is planted with some lovely lilies. Our house is over 250 years old and its walls are clothed with old roses, wisteria and jasmine. The rest of the garden around the house has some borders, shrubs and woodland. There is also a miniature garden railway on which real steam engines operate to a scale of 16mm to the foot,
