Montalto Estate

Owned by the Wilson family since 1994, Montalto Estate in Ballynahinch offers visitors the chance to reconnect with nature through its captivating gardens and scenic trails.

Nestled in the picturesque Co Down countryside, this historic estate, home to an exotic plant collection created by Sir Arthur Rawdon in the late 1600s, invites you to explore a variety of beautiful spaces. These include the Alpine Garden, Winter Garden, Fruit Garden, Formal Garden, an orchard set within a wildflower meadow, and the Lost Garden, opened in 2023 after being hidden for over a century. Once overgrown and forgotten, this restored space offers a glimpse into how it would have looked in 1912, with winding paths, breath-taking views and interpretive signage revealing its unique plants and features.

Wander the Garden Walk or the Lake Walk, admire champion trees, and enjoy seasonal displays alongside glimpses of local wildlife. With over 30,000 trees planted in recent years, Montalto’s gardens are ever-changing and full of discovery, perfect for anyone seeking tranquility, inspiration and a deeper connection with the natural world.
