News from Bellefield

While theres no denying autumn’s presence here in RHSI Bellefield, it hasnt stopped us getting lots of work done. The garden has had one of its most dramatic haircuts yet.

This is largely thanks to the extra help from our French students. Simon, Quentin and Gabriel. We have been teaching them lots of different skills as well as undertaking some big clearance jobs in the garden. From the delicate work of pricking out and taking cuttings to the more extreme end of pruning!

On the North border we have finally cut all the wild rambling roses back and pruned unwieldy shrubs; which were long overdue a cut!

In the blue border we have built a small terrace to admire the pond area from and have been digging out perrenial weeds and preparing the soil in the area for planting.

With the success of our Rooted in Bellefield project we have been planting as many trees as we can. The remainder will be planted in spring.
Beneath these new trees our volunteers added thousands of bulbs. Including Narcissus Mabel Wallace and Narcissus Gardeners Corner. In spring, we’ll add more shrubs so we can enjoy them as they mature.
