Notes from Bellefield

The sun is shining here at RHSI Bellefield as I write this, something that’s been rare enough the last few weeks.

The rains also held off this week allowing us to really make progress on the mammoth task of detail weeding the blue border.  At 70 meters long, our volunteers yesterday wondered if it was the longest border in Ireland?  Any border carpeted in buttercup and other problem weeds feels as though it’s the longest in the country, so for now we will claim the title!

Elsewhere we have made great progress planting, mapping splitting and potting the snowdrop collection. Often a thankless task as its a full year before you really see the results.

We’re looking forward to running the soil workshop here again on the 8th March and we’ll be busy building some new no dig beds for that too, nothing like a deadline to move things on…

We’ve exciting plans to extend the woodland garden here as well as develop more of the 28 acres we have so watch this space over the coming months.

Finally our plant fair on Sunday 23rd March promises to be an exciting day, with lots of sellers, tea, books, tours and all the joys of the spring garden here at RHSI Bellefield
